Product information "Small Sword"
The advantage of the sword point over the edge became increasingly evident by the end of the 16th century. The Rapier, with its long, elegantly thin profile, which emphasized its point, became the popular choice in civilian self-defense. It was however, a somewhat unwieldy weapon especially when it was used in narrow, crowded streets and alleyways. Eventually a more sophisticated, shorter and lighter version emerged that by the end of the 17th century had evolved into an entirely new weapon, the Small Sword.

Civilians carried it for as long as swords remained an integral part of fashionable dress. Its primary advantage was its stiff, lightweight blade which was forged in a triangular cross section. It was a highly lethal weapon, ideal for thrusting, and hung conveniently from a sash, baldric, or belt. The hilt (compared to the Rapier´s) was simple and smartly functional, consisting of no more than an elliptical plate, or two shells and a light knuckle guard.

The Cold Steel Small Sword duplicates the original model in weight, balance, triangular cross section, and deadly sharp point, but uses modern materials like 1055 high carbon blade steel, heat treated to a tough spring temper. The hilt features two shells with functional finger loops and a light, but strong, knuckle guard. Perfectly balanced and weighing only 640.7 g, the Small Sword comes complete with an attractive leather scabbard that features an intricately decorated throat and chape.

15th Century Longsword
The longsword, often called a hand-and-half, saw a great deal of service as a weapon of war, but was also employed a great deal as a civilian weapon of self- defense. Coupled with a dagger, the longsword was an excellent defense against robbers, thieves, footpads, assassins and even some of the robber bands that might roam the countryside. A good serviceable point allowed it to be used for thrusting, and a medium weight allowed it to be used easily and carried with equal ease. This weight also allowed it to be used with one hand with a dagger in the other. But when needed, it could be gripped with both hands for a very powerful cut. Pommel and guard are steel. Grip is wood wrapped with leather and wire. A beautiful and very functional sword. A scabbard is included. Details: Total length: 45 1/2" Blade size: 36 1/2" long, 1 3/16" wide, 3/16"" thick Weight: 3 lbs. 4 oz.

Two handed great Sword
Our Two Handed Great Sword is the biggest sword we make. But don´t let its size fool you, as there is nothing awkward or clumsy about this awesome sword. Sure it´s big and meant to be carried over the shoulder instead of in a scabbard, but it´s extremely well balanced and easily wielded by people of larger stature and physical strength. Weighing 3104.33 g with a 101.28 cm high carbon steel blade, it will make short work of pikemen or swordsmen and will prove equally effective against modern rifle butts and bayonets. To protect the hands from opposing weapons, it features a large guard with side rings plus integral parrying hooks that allow the blade to be shortened for close range slashing and stabbing attacks. The handle is made of wood and covered with leather and is extra long to afford a full two handed grip. What´s more, it´s capped by a heavy steel pommel that helps counter balance its long blade and serves as an effective weapon in its own right. Each sword comes fully sharpened and battle ready and we´re sure you will be thrilled with its fantastic fit and finish. If you´re looking for the ultimate in big performance oriented swords, your search is over. Specifications: Weight: 3066 g Thick: 0.56 cm Blade: 101.28 cm Handle: 39.05 cm Leather Wrapped Steel: 1055 High Carbon Overall: 140.34 cm

Thompson Saber
The Thompson Saber is not a historical or period-specific sword, rather it is a newly developed, thoroughly modern fighting saber. Designed by Cold Steel President Lynn C Thompson, and bearing his name, the Thompson Saber was created to Lynn's exact specifications. Having studied and trained in Western, Japanese and Filipino fighting arts for decades, Lynn has sparred with everything from short lightweight machetes to two handed broadswords. The Thompson Saber combines all of Lynn's favorite traits from a wide range of sources. Lynn said: "I wanted to make a battle sword. Not a dueling sword as such, but a true sword fighter's sword for the modern martial artist. I believe that the edge is superior to the point when facing multiple opponents. You have more opportunities to defend, counter, riposte and move without becoming transfixed on an opponent for a vital second - therefore, while it does thrust well, the Thompson Saber is a cutting tool first and foremost, on foot or on horseback. Its ground to my exact specifications; hair shaving sharp for the first six inches from the point, then gradually less sharp down through the rest of the blade, leaving enough material to block, parry and even bludgeon an opponent's blade. It's deeply blued to aid in rust resistance, but also to make the blade harder to see in the fast paced cut and thrust of combat. It has a modified 1904 Saber guard, offering amazing hand protection and a sizeable ray skin wrapped handle that will accommodate even big modern fencer's gloves. I designed this sword to be able to make deep cuts even with a flick of the wrist, and it makes monstrous cuts when "drawn" through the target. If you study bladed arts and appreciate the combative potential of the sword, I'm sure you'll love this saber!" The Thompson Saber comes complete with a heavy duty thick leather and steel scabbard with a leather belt frog for ease of carry. Specifications: Weight: 33.8 oz. Blade Thickness: 5/16" Blade Length: 32" Handle: 5 3/4" Cord Wrapped Ray Skin Handle Overall: 37 3/4" Steel: 1055 Carbon Sheath: Leather Scabbard w/ Blued Steel Fittings This is an item from the Cold Steel program in 2020.

12th Century Medieval Sword
Classified as type XIIIa by Oakeshott, the Two handed Templar stands as one of the most significant swords of the medieval period. Favoured for its reach and devastating cutting abilities, the two handed sword gained ground as the most venerated weapon of the 12th and 13th c. It’s wide blade and reach provided the knights with unmatched ability to break and penetrate the ever developing armors of the 13th century. As single-handed swords became inadequate against the leather and mail armor of the 13th C. heavier blades with wider blades were needed to break the mail and cut through leather armor. Hence the one handed swords of previous centuries were gradually replaced by larger cutting swords of the 12-13th C. Numerous variations are found throughout the European continent, establishing a general conformity and indicating a clear pattern of influence among smiths of the time. Variations are found in the Royal Armoury of Turin, the Imperial Treasury of Vienna, the Royal Armoury of Madrid and in the Hermitage, Petrograd. These two handed battle ready swords (12th century medieval sword) delivered powerful shearing cuts, and while large in size, they were still dynamic and responsive in their handling qualities. The sword of the Templar was not considered a mere weapon, but a religious relic. The crucifix Guard served not only for praying prior to battle, but also as a counter block in combat. The Guard, individually crafted from mild steel and finely shaped with smooth lines, is further accentuated by the rich leather wrapped Oak handle. The two handed Templar Sword is not only one of our best sellers, it is one of the top “Staff picks”. Hand crafted and properly engineered for durability in combat, the Two Handed Templar Sword is a very solid, responsive, and surprisingly well balanced for a sword of this statute. The blade, hand forged with 5160 High Carbon Steel, is skillfully Dual Hardened for precise cutting while remaining flexible for enduring combat. In a nutshell, the Two handed Templar Sword is a finely crafted sword that is built to last ! Customer Feedback about the 12th Century Medieval Sword: “Greetings, My new Darksword Two Handed Templar arrived today and I just wanted to let you know how pleased I am with it. The craftsmanship is evident throughout. There”s an Irish Hospitallers sword in our family, but not being the eldest son, it wasn”t passed to me. This sword is a very close representation of that one, including the simplicity, length and heft. Anyhow, I”m very pleased and will not hesitate to order from Darksword again.” ~ Ian Bennett, USA. “I received my sword last evening and it has exceeded my already high expectations. It is pristine and wonderful. I will acquire all my future blades from Darksword. Feel free to use me as a reference. Very respectfully” ~William Edward Graf v. Ettendorf-ReBrook , U.S.A. US 1860 Heavy Cavalry Saber
At the outbreak of the American Civil War, there were two types of sabers issued to the Federal Cavalry: "light" and "heavy". The light version was popular, but the heavy model, dubbed the "Old Wrist Breaker" was the one worth owning, as it was a superior weapon. Its 36" blade offered big reach advantages over most sabers, and its substantial weight gave it the leverage to easily crush bones and sever limbs or even a head with a single blow. The brass guard had three bars to protect the hand and the grip was wire bound leather and capped with a sturdy pommel. In its double ringed, steel scabbard, it could be easily attached to a saddle or to a belt. After examining and handling a number of original 1860 Heavy Cavalry Sabers, we decided to make our own reproduction with a few improvements. Our blade is made from 1050 high carbon steel with a hard spring temper and will pass the British Proof Test. Specifications: Overall: 105 cm Blade: 91 cm Thick: 0.8 cm Weight: 1200 g Steel: 1055 High Carbon

Man at Arms Collection: Sergeant's Halberd
Cold Steels company President Lynn C Thompson has long been fascinated by Pole Arms, Spears and Halberds. The Sergeant's Halberd is often seen as a ceremonial item, carried as a badge of rank by officers and NCOs alike in the 18th and 19th Century, it was a much feared weapon of war as well. Unlike its heavy-duty brethren (see Swiss Halberd #86009) the Sergeant's Halberd was actually developed during the age of firearms and was designed to face foes with less protective armor. Lighter, faster and more maneuverable, the Sergeant's Halberd is a deceptively quick and astonishingly effective weapon. Cold Steels interpretation of the Sergeant's Halberd is representative of the battlefield incarnation of this historical tool. Though it features costly but attractive embellishments and ornamentation, it is a true warrior through and though. Fully sharpened and surprisingly rugged and durable, it can be used as a spear for thrusting, a hook to catch, trap and entangle and as a cutting tool to chop, cut and slice! The Sergeant's Halberd is a perfect addition to the collection of any historical re-enactor or Western Martial Artist and it makes a terrifically effective emergency self-defense tool when your life is on the line.
