This helmet is based off of the great helmet of Sir Richard Pembridge, who died in 1375. The origin is now in the collection of the tiol Museum of Scotland, Edinburgh. The crosses at the bottom of the helmet in the front were used as attachment points for chains. These helped to prevent the helmet from being dislodged if it was struck by a lance. This was a common style in the 14th century. Another well known example is the helmet of Edward the Black Prince, who faought alongside Sir Richard at the battle of Poiters, France, in 1356. Tudor Close Helmet

This classic helmet is fully wearable and is made from 18 gauge hammer hardened steel. This is the classic form of helmet most often associated with the image of a knight. During Henry the VIII''s wars in France (1522-1523), this form of helmet would have been in use on both sides. The term Close Helm refers to the fact that this type locks firmly around the head for complete protection, with a very narrow field of vision to expose the eyes as little as possible. The visor is pierced with key-holes on both sides for good air flow during combat. The lower bevor section is split into two overlapping pieces that are hinged at the sides and hook together at the chin while the visor locks down firmly over it. PigFace Bascinet

The Barbuta is a design with a rich history. It was developed in Italy, originating from the Bascinet medieval armor, which itself had evolved from a steel skull cap worn under the great helm. During combat most soldiers removed the great helm as to not hinder their agility and visibility. These soldiers eventually discarding it completely for the simpler and more manageable Bascinet. The Barbuta developed from the Bascinet, with a design that hearkens back to the Corinthian helmets worn in the Greek empire. This is believed to have been caused by a renewed interest in classical history and literature.
