The Miao Dao, the "grain leaf" sabre, receives its name from the early 20th century despite its ancient origin. Its history is a subject of debate among some scholars and sword enthusiasts but all agree about its reemergence in the mid-16th century by General Qi Jiguang who resurrected the sword to combat pirates raiding coastal cities. After the victory over the pirates the Miao Dao remained useful battling enemies of the Ming Empire which led to this famous general's men to be known as the "invincible Qi army". Highly coveted by the soldiers the swords didn't pass along this weapon easily, and neither will you when you wield your own Miao Dao by Dragon King. Using the best materials and painstaking scrutinizing every detail, under the direction of founder, Frenchie Jin, the fires of the forge were ablaze with several new forged and folded katana for the new year.The new Kinryu Katana is the first in a series of limited edition forged and folded katana featuring an intricate dragon motif horimono on the blade. The 27 ¾” blade is folded using T10 and 9260 steels to produce a pronounced hada which is more visible in the hamon. The blade is well balanced and appropriate for various cutting demands. The red-crown crane holds profound respect and power in the Japanese mythos believed to live for a thousand years. As a symbol of authority, a Japanese idiom says, “one word from the crane” referring to the final word that isn’t challenged. Marrying the symbolism of the pine tree, another icon of power, longevity and wisdom, Shinto beliefs state that the gods of heaven reside in the ancient pines. Often used in wedding attire, the red-crown crane mates for life which make sense to pair this theme with a matching wakizashi. Kawanakajima Katana

The Battles of Kawanakajima were fought in the Sengoku period of Japan between bitter rivals Takeda Shingen and Uesugi Kenshin. Though neither warrior emerged victorious over the other, the battles did yield many stories of bravery, chivalry and cunning that have passed into Japanese legend and folklore. The artisans of Dragon King have immortalized this great series of battles in this forged and folded steel katana.This beast of a blade is 28” long with a deep hi to lessen the weight. The mixture of T10 and 9260 steel give the blade very pronounced hada which can be easily seen in the dark hamon. The 13 3/8” tsuka is wrapped in black silk over real same. As the bloom fades the maturing seeds fall back in to the mud to continue the cycle of rebirth, which is so beautifully depicted in our Lotus Seed Daisho set from Dragon King.
