Using items from this section on our website, you will become your own swordsmith. Choose from a wide variety of beautiful parts, all manufactured by the artisans at Windlass Steelcrafts. By mixing and matching these parts hundreds of unique possibilities are possible. You can even have your medieval sword engraved, sharpened and choose a period scabbard. Our master craftsmen will do all assembly of your final sword design at our facility. Pommels are peened in place, not screwed like most mass produced swords. Genuine Gurkha Regimental Kukri

The genuine Gurkha Regimental Kukri is made by the government contractor Windlass Steelcrafts. Each comes with a regulation sheath. Used with devastating effectiveness by the famous Nepalese Gurkhas in the Siege of Delhi in 1857, in the trenches of WWI France, throughout the New Guinea jungle in WWII, and with distinction in the Falkland Islands. The blade features deep grooves and the traditional religious notch. This kukri features a scale tang and the traditional, native hardwood handle. The butt plate is standard and made of metal. Seax

Circa 750 The seax, or sax, was universal in Northern Europe. Carried and used by the Saxons, Angles, Vikings and German tribes, its use probably dates before the fall of Rome and continues on into the early Middle Ages. From small knives with 3-4 inch blades to actual swords with blades of 27-28 inches, always single-edged, the profile of the seax varied a great deal. The original version of this large knife served from camp work to cutting work, on shipboard, and for fighting if a sword or axe was not available. The lobed pommel and guard are brass, and the wood grip is studded with brass tacks, for a very secure and comfortable grip. The blade is etched on both sides, flat ground, and capable of taking and holding a razor sharp edge. The leather sheath has been riveted and laced like the originals and features two thong slots. Landsknecht Katzbalger Sword

Beginning in the 14th century, Swiss pikemen established themselves as dominant mercenaries. But an equally courageous, stout competitor later appeared from Germany. Landsknecht troops challenged Swiss superiority in a "No Quarter" rivalry that lasted for years. The flamboyantly dressed German Landsknecht mercenary lived a harsh, brutal life and were famous for their giant, two-hand Flamberge sword. After using the Flamberge to break an enemy's row of front-line pikemen, a smaller, one-hand sword was employed for the ensuing close-quarters combat - the Katzbalger. Not as fancy as its slightly frivolous looking (but nonetheless deadly) big brother, the Katzbalger (roughly translates to "cat-gutter") was still highly styled and was designed to be an effective cut and thrust sword. Carried by all Landsknecht troops, including the pikemen and arquebusiers, this sword had an ornate "closed s" shaped guard and an extra long, fluted pommel. The Katzbalger was most assuredly respectful of its Renaissance roots.Our replica is just as battle ready as the originals. The beautifully rendered grip would do any Landskecht proud. The fluting in the pommel extends seamlessly into the wood grip, and the guard is expertly spiral twisted and terminates in half-spheres. The tempered, high carbon steel blade is adorned with a trio of fullers that slightly lighten the blade.The black leather scabbard is mildly decorated with leather bands that criss-cross and are knotted near the throat and has a unique steel tip. Guard is 4-1/4" wide. The blade is distal tapered (.160" at the guard and .1315" at the tip) which helps keep the sword's weight to only 2.4 lbs. Sticklestad Viking Sword

The Battle of Stiklestad was the final battle of St. Olaf. This was warfare of the old school, with two hosts meeting face-to-face and sword-to-sword. It was a brutal, bloody and deadly fight, and in the end, the mighty Olaf fell. Gaining a lot of fame for his exploits, he was eventually canonized as St. Olaf. This attractive Viking sword is copied from a specimen that was quite involved in that kind of vicious encounter. British 1796 Pattern Light Cavalry Saber

Designed by Major-General John Gaspard Le Marchant, the 1796 pattern light cavalry saber was based on Central and Eastern European hussar swords. As a young captain, he observed the clumsy design of the heavy, overly long 1788 Pattern swords. Le Marchant opined that the "blades of the Turks, Mamelukes, Moors, and Hungarians (were) preferable to any other." He gave the blade of this saber a pronounced curve, which made it more adept at cavalry attack methods, and designed it with a widened tip that affected the balance, but made slashes far more brutal. It was issued primarily to British light dragoons and hussars and was also used by the King's German Legion light cavalry during the Napoleonic Wars. The blade profile became so popular that the Prussians and other German states emulated its design throughout the 19th century.This exact replica of an original antique weighs only 1 lb, 12 oz, and the blade features an extreme distal taper, enabling it to feel exceptionally lively. A full 5/8" thick at the hilt, and tapers to a super thin 1/64", 1" from the tip. English 15th Century Long Sword, Royal Armouries Collection

This is a reproduction of an early 15th century knightly longsword, believed to have been found in the River Thames before finding its way into the Tower of London collection. Dating to around 1400-1430, this is the sort of hand-and-a-half sword that was often carried by knights and men-at-arms, and it features a two-handed hilt with scent-stopper pommel. The stiff and acutely-tapered blade ends in a robust but slender point. This sword was used in one or two hands, depending on circumstance, and in armored combat the blade could also be gripped in halfswording, to better drive the point into the gaps of an armored opponent, and also to use the crossguard and pommel for wrestling and striking. This is exactly the type of sword that many English knights would have carried at the Battle of Agincourt. The blade of this sword has three transitions, from a hollow ground blunt ricasso next to the guard, to a hexagonal cross-section and finally to the flattened diamond section point. This sword strikes with authority, despite the narrow appearance. This is due to the surprisingly thick spine for most of the length of the blade, making it very stiff, and ideally suited to halfswording and thrusting into things like mail voiders at the armpits of an enemy knight’s armor. A relatively nimble sword, but with more blade presence than you might expect.This replica is crafted with a better blade than the original; the blade is hand forged by a skilled blacksmith exactly in the same manner as the original, but with superior modern 1080 high carbon steel that is fully tempered and is distally tapered for proper weight distribution.The sheath is made to replicate one of the period, with a wood body and covered with leather. European 14th Century Arming Sword, Royal Armouries Collection

The pommel of this sword looks conventional when viewed dead-on, but turn the sword sideways and an unusual, somewhat conical shape reveals itself. The sword was reputedly found in a peat bog together with another now in Rome and is unusually well preserved. Comparable swords have been found across much of Europe. One-handed arming swords were carried as sidearms by many people at the time, often used with a shield or buckler. They can be seen used with small bucklers in the famous fencing treatise Royal Armouries Ms. I.33, as well as equipping fully armored knights in numerous manuscripts and monuments. This sword could have been carried at the beginning of the Hundred Years War, and it features several very distinctive features. The subtly shaped crossguard curves towards the blade, tapering and then swelling at the terminals, and the distinctive pommel has very particular angles and facets. The hilt sits very comfortably in the hand. The broad leaf-like straight blade is of a flattened-diamond cross-section, double-edged, with a narrow fuller to reduce mass. The width swells slightly where it meets the hilt and the gracefully curved edges finish in an acute thrusting tip. The sword is quite light for the size but has a lot of blade presence and power in the hand, being very well suited to give impressive cuts and thrusts.This replica is crafted with a better blade than the original; the blade is hand forged by an experienced, skilled blacksmith exactly in the same manner as the original, but with superior modern 1080 high carbon steel that is fully tempered and is distally tapered for proper weight distribution.The sheath is made to replicate one of the period, with a wood body and covered with leather. The tip is reinforced with a brass chape that features ornate cut-outs and an acorn tip.
