Kiri Dark Stone

Kiridashi is a type of Japanese knife, a cutting multipurpose tool. One of its peculiarities is the asymmetric bevel; only one of the two sides is grind while the other remains flat. Extrema Ratio has reinterpreted this traditional Japanese knife according to its style, giving it a more tactical look than the original. KIRI features a particular tip designed to obtain a high penetration efficiency while maintaining its characteristic chisel grind. Resolza 12, Stone Washed

RESOLZA is an ancient name, reminiscent of the Italian word for razor. The centuries old Sardinian “resolza” one of the best-known traditional knives in our country – to this day it’s been the constant companion to island farmers and shepherds in their everyday work. It followed them even when they were called to war: chronicles of the Sassari Brigade during World War I mention the knife as part of the troopers’ equipment. Our attempt to revisit this traditional design according to our own standards is meant as a tribute, not to disregard Sardinian craftsmen still practicing the old ways of knife-making and keeping ancestral traditions alive. This RESOLZA retains original measurements and proportions, with a 4.8” blade, but is produced with the usual Extrema Ratio high-end materials and technologies. The handle was redesigned, while the blade more faithfully approaches a traditional shape. As an improvement on tradition, we added a blade-locking mechanism. Just like its original model, Satre, Satre Expeditions is a pocket-sized, light and extremely resistant fixed blade knife. The company's flagship of Extrema Ratio. They have directly collaborated on the development of the latest European standards concerning the role of the bayonet in the modern soldier's equipment. These studies have resulted in the definition of the modern bayonet as the "multipurpose bayonet". The old concept of the dagger/bayonet has moved forward to the multipurpose knife/bayonet. In synthesis a multipurpose knife which can be fixed to the issued rifle. The idea for this system originated following the use of the multipurpose Fulcrum EI by the Italian "Nibbio" Contingent in Afghanistan. Contact, HCS

Extrema Ratio developed the first knife of a new production line, called CONTACT.It has a blade with a lance-shaped profile, a flat grinding and a diamond-shaped geometry. It has got a lower guard branch to protect the hand from accidental cuts, upper jumping to improve grip, a concave fuller along the entire length of the blade and a generous thickness blade (6.30mm) All these details make the Contact the elder brother of the now famous Requiem, revisited in proportions and in some technical features. The first of a new line of multipurpose knives.The blade is made in Böhler N690 steel with a hardness of 58 HRC and a chemical burnishing coating for the Black version. All other colours in production have got a blade with Stone Washed finishing. The handle is still in forprene . It is no more assembled by the side screws but thanks to the shank in truncated cone-shaped stainless steel that is screwed to the bottom and goes to fit inside a special seat, which makes it solid. In this way the knife is well balanced. This model with reduced sizes has been developed on the shape of the skinner and it has been transformed into a real tactical knife. The handle is very closed to the sharpened edge and presents a curve on the lower side to place the index finger, so that to avoid injuring during pulling out from the kydex sheath. Its structure enables cutting slashes thanks also to its razor grinding. N.K.1 can be used also for precision works thanks to the reduced blade size and the position of the index finger on the upper part of the knife. The "kukri", a Nepalese tool made famous by the Gurkha regiment on Her Majesty's Service is also derived from the ancient Greek swords, it is simply a machete with a forward cut. The forward cutting blade allows it to work like an axe while maintaining the versatility of the long blade. This series was developed based on a fusion of modern and antique concepts. The grindings are differentiated: near the handle the blade is razor sharp, this grinding allows it to achieve a fine sharp angle without intruding excessively on the thickness of the dorsal material which has to remain solid. The Extrema Ratio Misericordia, adopted by the 4th Alpine Ranger that helped develop and test the product. It is a tactical fixed blade knife, extremely light and compact, it can be used both as a main knife or as a backup blade.The blade of the new Extrema Ratio Misericordia is milled out of Böhler N690 steel, hardened at 58 HRC, it is 118 mm/4.64” long and 4mm/0,16” thick and plain edged.The blade has a spear point profile with full length fuller that makes the knife even lighter, with a ¾ length false edge. These are very basic light knives, they are easy to carry and extremely versatile. Their function is guaranteed by a blocking system of tried and tested reliability. It can be considered as a milestone among the multirole knives. Widely used in Afghanistan as standard issue for the soldiers of the Italian Task Force “Nibbio”, it is part of an experimental project undertaken by the “Comando Truppe Alpine” to renew the military personal equipment. During all of the phases that led to the preparation of the mission, the Alpine Troops Command coordinated a pool of companies aimed to deliver renewed and complete individual equipment. A particular situation created in the early years of the first world war found soldiers in increasingly more complex confined situations. These situations demanded the formation of units who over time had to excel in hand to hand combat. Our assault units the “Arditi” had their own knife. They made these knives by cutting off the tips of their long bladed “Vetterli” bayonets of 1870 which in the past had been problematic due to its long and unwieldly length. Ricognizione ed Acquisizione Obiettivi” (Target Acquisition Regiment) airborne “FOLGORE” (185° RAO) commissioned to EXTREMA RATIO the developing of a special knife based on specifications concerning their special duties. The 185° RAO, is the only unit in the Italian Armed Forces in charge of long range recons and to acquire several kind of targets to be engaged with artillery, helicopters, aircraft and battleships suppression fire, across all the possible theatres during armed force, interforce and multinational force operations. A very delicate and dangerous duty, operated by detachments capable to penetrate, operate and survive in hostile surroundings thanks to a two years very hard training. The motto of this special operation regiment is: “VIDERE NEC VIDERI”, from Latin: “SEE WITHOUT BE SEEN”. Corvo

The CORVO is a traditional Chilean Army combat knife. Its origins are misterious: it did probably arrive in the New World with the Spanish Conquistadores, who had already appreciated it during the war against the Moors. It shows undoubted affinities with Jambiya, the traditional Arab knife still used nowadays as a Yemen male clothing accessory. CORVO has been used during the War of the Pacific. It was produced in several versions such as: the Curved Corvo with the blade bending at almost 90° and the Corvo Atacameño combat knife which is longer but with a gentler bending of the blade for a higher flexibility during use. DOBERMANN IV S600

DOBERMANN IV is the evolution of the first and most classic Extrema Ratio K1 DOBERMANN. Since 1997 the DOBERMANN model has notably evolved its aesthetic and design according to everchanging tastes and trends, while retaining a line consistent with its original designs. DOBERMANN IV has usage flexibility and structural resistance as its main characteristics. DOBERMANN IV S600, like the model from which it derives, is a multirole knife that can be used for hunting, survival, camping and military use. The blade has a drop point tip while the central part has a recurved blade profile. The grind, higher than the knives of the same segment, is flat. This particular blade geometry allows DOBERMANN IV to make precise and clean cuts on materials such as rope, wood and foliage, as well as to be employed for typical bushcraft and survival operations, such as batoning and chopping. Unlike the other DOBERMANN IVs, this model is made of Böhler S600 steel. This material is used for manufacturing metalwork and stamp-creation tools. The high content of molybdenum, tungsten and a good presence of vanadium in its chemical composition provide excellent qualities of hardness, wear resistance and toughness. The presence of cobalt stimulates the growth of small uniformly distributed carbides, which enhance mechanical qualities such as bending capacity. The blade of DOBERMANN IV S600 is hardened and cryogenically treated, thus reaching an exceptional hardness of 64 HRC; this makes it very resistant to wear and gives the edge a lasting sharpening. Böhler S600 has 4.5% of chrome, which makes it oxidizable. For this reason, Extrema Ratio has chosen the new EXP DARK Teflon-based finish. DOBERMANN IV S600 is equipped with a green forprene handle. Extrema Ratio Misericordia Desert preserves all the characteristics of the famous Misericordia, model adopted by the 4th Alpine Paratrooper Regiment, and is derived from the commemorative dagger made for the 140th anniversary of the 4th Alpine Regiment and the 70th anniversary of the institution of the Alpine Paratroopers.It is a fixed-blade tactical knife meant for those circumstances in which a knife has to be extremely light and compact. The new desert coloration gives to this model a new tone that best meets the needs of the most modern operative units.The blade is milled in Böhler N690 steel, heat treated to 58 HRC, and is 118 mm (4.64") long and 4mm (0.16") thick with a flat grind. In June 2006, the “185° Rgt. Ricognizione ed Acquisizione Obiettivi” (Target Acquisition Regiment) airborne “FOLGORE” (185° RAO) commissioned to EXTREMA RATIO the developing of a special knife based on specifications concerning their special duties. The 185° RAO is the only unit in the Italian Armed Forces in charge of long range recons and to acquire several kinds of targets to be engaged with artillery, helicopters, aircraft and battleship suppression fire, across all possible theatres. This very delicate and dangerous duty is operated by detachments capable to penetrate, operate and survive in hostile surroundings thanks to two years of very hard training. The motto of this special operation regiment is: “Videre nec videri”, from Latin: “See without being seen”. The result is a survival knife RAO. It is not a big folder, but a compact field knife with a strong and heavy blade and a very safe locking system, assisted by an extra safe device to turn the folder in a real fix blade knife. Opening and closing of the blade is done with both hands to minimize the risk of self injuries. Fulcrum, Desert Warfare

Probably a milestone among multipurpose knives. Employed on a large scale in Afghanistan as standard equipment by the members of the Italian mission "Nibbio", it is part of an experimental project undertaken by the Alpine Troops Headquarters on the renewal of individual equipment. During the preparation for this mission, the Alpine Troops Headquarters coordinated a team of companies in the realization of a new and complete experimental kit of individual equipment. Extrema Ratio is the company that the Alpine Troops Headquarters chose for the development of a multipurpose knife suitable for the infantry, a knife that could be used in any action and that could successfully solve any type of problem even where more specialized equipment proved inadequate. It was so successful that the multipurpose knife then led to the development of the Fulcrum Bayonet, which had the same characteristics but could be fixed to the issued rifle. The Fulcrum is an extremely robust and versatile knife, the blade can take loads over 150kg without breaking, the point is incredibly robust and the "tanto" profile means the knife can be used for long periods without affecting the sharpness of the last section, this guarantees, together with the partially sharp dorsal blade, (the civilian version does not include this), its capacity for penetration which is necessary in close combat against targets with heavy clothing, garnments and soft ballistic protection. The forward centre of gravity and the weight of the blade make it suitable for heavy field work. The new automatic hard sheath means it can be carried both safely and comfortably and the lace that holds the upper part of the handle dramatically reduces the risk of entanglement, even when making parachute jumps. The spear point blade is heat treated to 58 HRC for best combination of edge retention and toughness. Ant is the most compact of the folding knives from Extrema Ratio. Despite its small size, this model features an extremely robust, durable, and reliable structure. The handle consists of two different elements: the handle scale made of anodized anticorodal aluminum and the frame made of tempered steel, which also serves as the blade lock (Frame Lock System). This mechanism involves bending a part of the frame inwards, securely fixing the blade in the open position, enhancing the operator's safety during knife use. There is a hole for a lanyard on the tang, and on the right side of the handle, there is a steel clip allowing for concealed carry in the pocket. BF1 Classic Tanto

These are very basic light knives, they are easy to carry and extremely versatile. Their function is guaranteed by a blocking system of tried and tested reliability. The dimensions allow for it to be carried both easily and discreetly. The larger versions comprise an extra safety catch to stop the blade from being closed accidentally. This series of extremely compact folding knives is the result of interaction between Extrema Ratio and the military and police with whom we collaborate. The Arditi Distruttori of the Regia Aeronautica (ADRA), operating in North Africa during the Second World War, earned two silver medals for military valor. This milestone among multipurpose knives, employed on a large scale in Afghanistan as standard issue equipment of the Italian “Nibbio” mission, originated with a COMALP Alpine Troops Command experimental project for renewing trooper equipment. As part of preparing for the mission, COMALP coordinated a team of companies toward creating a full experimental set of newly designed equipment for the individual trooper. The Caimano Nero is a tactical knife designed by Extrema Ratio, official supplier to the COMSUBIN, and delivered to the G.O.I., Gruppo Operativo Incursori (Operational Raiders Group), of the Italian Navy. Its name is a reference and a tribute to the heroic Caimani Neri del Piave (Black Caimans of the Piave river), a unit of the Arditi della Regia Marina (Italian Royal Navy), who used to swim across the Piave river to carry out raids on enemy territory during the First World War. Ant is the most compact of the folding knives from Extrema Ratio. Despite its small size, this model features an extremely robust, durable, and reliable structure. The handle consists of two different elements: the handle scale made of anodized anticorodal aluminum and the frame made of tempered steel, which also serves as the blade lock (Frame Lock System). This mechanism involves bending a part of the frame inwards, securely fixing the blade in the open position, enhancing the operator's safety during knife use. There is a hole for a lanyard on the tang, and on the right side of the handle, there is a steel clip allowing for concealed carry in the pocket. On 19th December 1941, at Eluet El Asel, about 400 men of the 1st Battalion of Royal Paratrooper Carabinieri braved the assault of several Indian battalions: jumping from their foxholes and throwing improvised grenades, the “desert lions”, as Radio London defined them, held the line, allowing thousands of German and Italian soldiers to safely retreat. This was the first action in the history of Italian paratroopers. The paratrooper regiment “Tuscania” has asked for the Extrema Ratio T911 to be specifically designed to commemorate its 80th anniversary. The T911 is a light, medium sized folding knife, designed for professional use by military operators. Probably a milestone among multipurpose knives. Employed on a large scale in Afghanistan as standard equipment by the members of the Italian mission "Nibbio", it is part of an experimental project undertaken by the Alpine Troops Headquarters on the renewal of individual equipment. During the preparation for this mission, the Alpine Troops Headquarters coordinated a team of companies in the realization of a new and complete experimental kit of individual equipment. Extrema Ratio is the company that the Alpine Troops Headquarters chose for the development of a multipurpose knife suitable for the infantry, a knife that could be used in any action and that could successfully solve any type of problem even where more specialized equipment proved inadequate. It was so successful that the multipurpose knife then led to the development of the Fulcrum Bayonet, which had the same characteristics but could be fixed to the issued rifle. The Fulcrum is an extremely robust and versatile knife, the blade can take loads over 150kg without breaking, the point is incredibly robust and the "tanto" profile means the knife can be used for long periods without affecting the sharpness of the last section, this guarantees, together with the partially sharp dorsal blade, (the civilian version does not include this), its capacity for penetration which is necessary in close combat against targets with heavy clothing, garnments and soft ballistic protection. The forward centre of gravity and the weight of the blade make it suitable for heavy field work. MK2.1 Desert Warfare

The restyling of a classical, a tribute to a veteran, one of the most distributed and used knives during World War II: MARK 2. It was produced in many versions by historical US knives manufacturers but always following the original specs given by the U.S. NAVY. It is the preferred tool among traditionalists who only trust “battle tested" knives. Throughout the years several manufacturers have tried to restyle this knife with little success. It is in fact the original model which is still favoured in the main catalogues. Extrema Ratio’s aim, in this ambitious project, is to keep the original characteristics while developing only functional changes to increase performance. Cobalt reinforced stainless steel is used for the blade, AISI 303 and AISI 304 are used for the other components. The rounded leather handle has been replaced with a fibre glass reinforced nylon handle. The ergonomics of the original knife has been left intact while all structural parts have been oversized to obtain a sturdy versatile knife. The most important changes have been made to solve the so called “weak spots” of the original version. 1. it is now possible to disassemble the knife in the field without the need of tools; 2. the Bowie shape was straightened for easy sharpening; 3. the grooves in the “barrel” shaped handle help to find proper blade direction even in dark conditions 4. the same grooves improve the grip during twisting movements Other small modifications were to add holes on the back tang to add a lanyard and on the front guard to tie the blade on a pole to be used as a spear. For purely aesthetical reasons the traditional blood groove has been replaced with the typical Extrema Ratio “side groove”. The original knife was perfect and no other modifications were needed. ADRA OPERATIVO

The A.D.R.A. (Arditi Distruttori Regia Aeronautica) operated during World War II in the North African territories and were awarderd two silver medal of honour. The Adra battallion had the complex task to sabotage enemy military airports through missions in which they used new warfare techniques until then unknown. S-THIL Stone Washed

The Extrema Ratio S-THIL Stone Washed is a backup tactical knife of monolithic construction milled out of a 5 mm (0.2") bar of BOHLER N690 steel, developed in cooperation with designer Thilo Arnd Schiller.The spear point blade is heat treated to 58 HRC for best combination of edge retention and toughness. It has a false double edge to make it very effective in thrusting and piercing and has a full length fuller that flows elegantly from the blade into the handle. The blade is milled integral to the knife for better compactness and lightness, with minimum thickness yet with a pattern that reminds of the classical Extrema Ratio knife grip.This profile creates two small guards and a comfortable thumb rest to prevent the hand from slipping towards the blade. On the pommel there is a diamond shaped skull crusher and a slot for a wrist strap or for giving the knife a paracord grip wrap.The stamped nylon sheath has been designed to be extremely flat and very narrow, to keep it as compact as possible. N.K.1 Stonewashed

This model with reduced sizes has been developed on the shape of the skinner and it has been transformed into a real tactical knife. The handle is very closed to the sharpened edge and presents a curve on the lower side to place the index finger, so that to avoid injuring during pulling out from the kydex sheath. Its structure enables cutting slashes thanks also to its razor grinding. N.K.1 can be used also for precision works thanks to the reduced blade size and the position of the index finger on the upper part of the knife. BF1 Classic Drop Desert Warfare

This series of extremely compact folding knives is the result of collaboration between Extrema Ratio and the military and police. The intention was to create a folding knife for everyday use, simple, essential and functional. The basic folder, short: BF1. There are two blade patterns (Tanto and Drop), and two patterns of handles (Classic and Tactical). All blades are burnished through zirconium carbonitruration and the handles are burnished through anodising. The blades have flat grindings with especially thick and resistant points (a characteristic of this series). The "Classic" handle features the characteristic lowered flat zone for easy opening of the knife by using the opening "pin". The clip is another innovation, it is reversible, positioned on the back of the blade and hugging the tang, so that when the knife is inserted in a pocket the tang does not stick out and only the clip is visible. The approved "liner lock" functions as blocking mechanism.
