Iron Mistress

In 1952 Gil Hibben fell in love with the "Iron Mistress" Bowie knife when he saw the movie of the same name starring Alan Ladd playing Jim Bowie. Gil never forgot the legendary Bowie knife depicted in the movie and decided to make one for himself. That was the first of many Bowie knives that Gil has made during his 50 year career as a knifemaker and it is still one of his favorite knives. Gil's version of Iron Mistress Bowie Knife features a massive blade of 440C high carbon stainless steel. The blade is topped with a brass blade catcher all the way back to the sculpted stainless steel guard. The beautiful African Blackwood handle is inlayed on both sides with alternative ivory and adorned with a brass collar, brass butt cap and mosaic pins. One side of the handle is scrimshawed with "Jim Bowie" and the inlay on the other side is left blank so you can personalize it. It comes complete with a handmade custom fitted leather sheath. This model was designed by Gil Hibben for the legendary hunter and outdoorsman Elmer Keith in 1964. When Mr. Keith passed away they found his original Hibben knife among his gear in his cabin indicating that he had carried and used it until his death in 1984. The beautiful knife features a sturdy 5/16" thick blade of mirror polished 440C stainless steel and solid brass guard and pommel. Stainless steel guard and pommel are available for an extra charge. Gil Hibben Big John

Gil Hibben is the creator of the knives seen in the motion pictures Rambo, the knife seen in the new 2008 movie "Rambo", and numerous other movies. He is also the "Official Klingon Armorer" having created the Klingon knives and swords seen in Star Trek movies. Gil also makes custom handmade knives for collectors around the world and is President of the Knifemakers Guild as well as an inductee into the Knifemakers Hall of Fame and the Knife Throwers Hall of Fame. This knife was one of the original prototype designs from when Gil Hibben was designing a knife for the new "Rambo" movie. This design was rejected for the movie because it was too "finished" looking and Sylvester Stallone wanted something much more crude and primitive looking. But Gil liked the design which incorporates features of both of the knives that he created for the last two "Rambo" films so it was decided to offer it to the collectors. The "Big John" is entirely handmade and features a massive 30 cm blade of 0,64 cm thick D2 high carbon steel and a beautiful Macassar Ebony handle.
