Wielded with untamed ferocity on many a Gaelic battlefield, the massive Lowlander sword vividly illustrates the might of the Scots of old. Known as "Slaughter-Swords" in the 16th century, these were the swords of choice for Scottish mercenaries of the period, and at close to six feet long the Lowlander faithfully replicates a surviving museum piece. Though by far the largest sword ever offered by CAS/Hanwei, the Lowlander is beautifully proportioned and balanced. The typically Scottish quatrefoils in the ring guards attest to the heritage of this imposing piece. A wall mount is provided to allow the transplanted Gael to display his sword with pride.

In many myths and folk tales, a hero is a man or woman (then often called a heroine), traditionally the protagonist of a story, legend or saga, commonly possessed of powers far beyond that of a standard human, which enable him or her to perform some truly extraordinary, beneficial deed (an "heroic deed") for which he or she is famous. These powers are sometimes not only of the body but also of the mind. Heroes are typically opposed by villains.

T'ai Chi Ch'üan, Taijiquan, Tai Chi Chuan, or commonly Tai Chi or Taiji, is a Nei chia ("internal") Chinese martial art which is known for the claims of health and longevity benefits made by its practitioners and in some recent medical studies. T'ai Chi Ch'uan is also known as a "soft style" martial art.
T'ai Chi forms are best known as the slow motion routines groups of people practice every morning in hundreds of parks across China and, increasingly, other parts of the world. In T'ai Chi classes one is taught awareness of one's own balance and what affects it, awareness of the same in of others, and appreciation of the practical value in one's ability to moderate extremes of behavior and attitude at both mental and physical levels.

The Throwing Axe could be used as a weapon in two ways in the days of the Vikings. As a hand-held weapon it was a lethal force, capable of cleaving helms, mail and shields, while a volley of thrown axes could disrupt an opposing force and allow a breakthrough in a shield wall. Our throwing axe has also proved itself in modern throwing competitions as a well balanced piece. Replacement shafts are available.

By customer request CAS` have produced a re-enactment version of our the Original Bastard sword.
The blade is forged in 5160 high-carbon steel, to minimize burring, and the transverse thickness of the guard has been increased, both to provide adequate strength for re-enactment use and to present a safer profile at the ends of the guard. Another innovation is the provision of an all-leather scabbard, in contrast with the rigid scabbards normally provided with the Practical swords - this is designed both to provide an extra margin of safety when combatants fall on the scabbard in battle and also to minimize the need for replacement scabbards.
The sword is supplied with the grip and scabbard in a neutral-coloured leather to allow customization to the owners taste.

In 1876, the Samurai were banned from carrying their swords. This attempt to end a thousand year tradition was not received well by the proud warrior class and the "stick katana" was born. Innocuous walking canes now concealed the revered blades, but the katana lived on. The Bamboo Stick Katana combines an artfully curved bamboo scabbard and handle with a blade (nagasa) that is constructed of hand-forged 1065 high-carbon steel and is differentially tempered using a traditional claying method. The edge hardness and resilient blade body produced by this technique embody the true secret of the Samurai sword.

The Early Medieval Sword is typical of the 13th-14th century single hand swords but the Type XII blade was known to be in use from as early as the late Viking era.
This version features a sharp Marquenched spring steel blade. As with all Medieval Tinker models, this sword is dismountable.
CAS has commissioned Michael `Tinker` Pearce to design a line of swords that will satisfy both the sparring and cutting needs of Western Martial Arts practitioners.
Matching sharp and blunt versions of each sword in the series offer the same outstanding handling characteristics in both disciplines. The swords meet Tinker`s exacting quality requirements and are built in much the same way as his custom pieces.
Each blade is forged from 5160 spring steel, Marquenched to the desired hardness of 50-53 HRC while the tang is drawn back to the low 30s HRC. For the Medieval models the very end of the tang is threaded to fit an allen nut recessed into the pommel which allows for dismantling of the hilt assembly for inspection, to exchange blades if needed, and for anyone wanting to easily customize their grip. Also the sharp and blunt blades are interchangeable on all Medieval models. The grips are cord wrapped and leather covered wood and tapered for a comfortable grip. Each sword is supplied with a leather covered wood scabbard with metal throat and chape.

Traditionally Chinese Martial Artists have used wooden "wasters" during sparring practice to inform their training and perfect their technique. While these wasters are generally safe, they have serious limitations for learning how swords actually behave during sparring. Hanwei's Sparring Jian have been designed by Scott Rodell to handle as closely as possible to sharp jian while providing rounded edges and safe flex during a thrust.
Using the same blade steel, advanced heat treatment regimen and handle fittings as the Rodell designed Hanwei Cutting Jian students can practice forms, sparring and cutting all with the same design. Through these three disciplines the student can take a holistic approach to their jianfa training; what works in forms must work in sparring must work in cutting must work in forms, etc...
Scott M. Rodell`s martial arts career includes over 30 years of training in Yang Style Taijiquan. He has trained under several noted Chinese masters, in both the U.S. and China. CAS Hanwei’s smiths have outdone themselves with their recreation of a 9th Century Saxon sword by replicating a technique used by the Saxons and Vikings and producing a stunning blade that features a pattern-welded core with high-carbon edge sections.
This technique was used by the old-time smiths as a means of producing blades (just for the rich folks) that were sharp, resilient and decorative and eleven hundred years on, CAS Hanwei has made them affordable.
The sword’s design is based on a 9th Century piece found in the bank of a stream in England in 1976 and now on display in the Yorkshire Museum.
