A few years back, Ed Calderon was able to host one of his most famous training courses at TOPS Knives and took the time to be a guest on TOPS Daily Grind. During his time in Idaho Falls, there were many conversations about edged tools and weapons. The Brush Wolf was designed by Aaron and Nate Morgan of Houghton Era after a few tracking excursions in some viaducts in Detroit, MI. The two brothers grew up skateboarding there and became attracted to the remnants of coyote activity they were finding at some of the skate spots. If you are looking for a hard use American made fixed blade for the battle field or the woods, this is your knife. The Tex Creek XL (2" more of blade) is a tribute to the men and women who hunt and fish in the Tex creek area in Southeast, Idaho. The wildlife management area which includes 2 national forests, is home to an abundance of diverse wildlife and is accessible starting about 10 miles from the TOPS shop facility. Open range, high rugged mountains, waterways and large forests provide the hunter and fisherman a variety of diverse terrain to acquire: elk, bear, mountain lion, wolf, moose, pheasant, turkey, quail, rabbit, duck, goose, steelhead and salmon. The fact that this Tex creek area is so close to TOPS headquarters, enables their designers and makers the ability to field test in their own backyard. X16 Ginunting Machete with Kydex Sheath

The Filipino culture and the martial arts culture in particular has a deep, rich history. One of those tools is the Ginunting. Possibly derived from a Binangon (which was used as a farm or yard tool), the Ginunting is a powerful weapon. Adam Boyce, aka Spartan mode, is an Idaho native and friend of TOPS. In 2018, Adam approached TOPS because he had an opportunity to be a contestant on the Forged in Fire spinoff show Knife or Death. In the end, he was an alternate and wasn’t able to compete, but the X16 Ginunting was prototyped for him to be used on the show if he was selected. Silent Hero 4

The original purpose behind the Silent Hero knife was to provide a mid-large sized tool to be used by a specialized interdiction unit that was combating rhino poachers in Africa. It is an excellent design and has served many people on multiple continents. Over time, Anton (the designer) realized that he didn’t always need such a large knife strapped to his hip.This is where the Silent Hero 4 was born. The handle and blade shape of the full-sized knife was perfect for a variety of tasks. By shrinking them down, you end up with a knife that is much more easily carried as an EDC, but still long enough to handle the vast majority of cutting tasks. While the look of this smaller version is basically there same, there are a few differences. The blade is a bit thinner (1/8” instead of 3/16”). The Silent Hero was designed by Anton Du Plessis, who at the time of the design was the Chief of Operations for the Specialized Interdiction Unit of the Silent Heroes Foundation. His task was to combat the poaching crisis in South Africa. This knife had to be durable, versatile, and able to fill Anton's needs in the field, which affected the design of the blade and the handle. It will definitely hold up to hard use. And with a weight of only 12 oz, you'll be able to use the knife without getting fatigued too quickly.There is a lanyard hole in the handle along with another in the finger guard. This is meant to allow the user to add a safety cord in order to improve the grip on the handle, which already allows for a solid grip. A-Klub Machete

TOPS is famous for many things. Three that are important to us are differentially heat-treated 1095 blades, overbuilt unique designs, and working with outside designers. The A-Klub hits all three of those categories squarely. It is also the first to be released by TOPS which was designed by a woman. Amanda Kaye is probably best known for having appeared on Discovery Channel's Naked and Afraid.Aside from her TV appearances, Amanda Kayne has been an avid hunter and student of Native American primitive skills. She is no stranger to hard work. So it seems fitting that the first female-designed TOPS knife would be a large, heavy-working tool. Many of the design features came from Native American influences. Namely, a weapon known as a "gunstock war club".The forward sweeping edge widens toward the tip, which enables it to chop very similarly to a Kukri design. At the pommel, the handle widens a bit to make it easy to hold on to when chopping heavily.
