Product information "Pirate Cutlass - Heritage Series"
Introducing the Heritage Series Classic Medieval Cutting Sword by Windlass! Windlass Steelcrafts® has reintroduced some of our all-time favorites with several upgrades!
The blade has improved distal taper, making the sword livelier and quicker. The scabbard now has a wooden core underneath the leather exterior. The grip features leather that is dimpled using a historically authentic "wet-wrap" process, during which fine cord is tightly wrapped around a wet leather grip. When it's dry, the cord is removed and the leather is left attractively indented and provides improved texture and grip.
Many a bloody-handed pirate of the 17th century clambered over the side of a gold laden galleon armed with a cutlass such as this. Known by many names, "hanger", "cuttoe," and "short saber" by infantry or "cutlass" by sailors, this was an exceedingly popular short weapon. The steel basket protected the hand and could be used as an armored fist in the close confines of shipboard combat. Steel pommel and leather-covered wood handle. Includes leather scabbard with metal locket and chape. The locket has a frog stud and the chape features a skull and crossbones medallion. The leather grip and scabbard are dyed a dark green. Hand forged by Windlass Steelcrafts, the high carbon steel blade is factory sharp.
