Several hundred years ago humankind was nearly eradicated by Titans. They are huge, not very intelligent and seem to eat humans only for fun. A small percentage of humans survived by hiding in a city with walls taller than the tallest Titan. For more than 100 years no Titan was close to the city. But then, Teenager Eren and his foster-sister Mikasa have to witness how a “Super Titan” suddenly appears in front of the city and destroys the walls. While smaller Titans enter the city through the holes, the children witness how their mother gets eaten alive. Eren then vows that he’ll kill every single Titan on the planet and take revenge for humankind.

Eren Jäger, his best friend Armin Arlert and his adoptive sister Mikasa Ackermann are from the outer district Shiganshina. When the Titans invaded Shingashina he saw how his mother Carla Jäger was eaten by a Titan. This made Eren join the recon corps. Armin and Mikasa follow him. In contrast to Mikasa, Eren is not a born soldier but he has special abilities. He is a “Titan shifter” which means he can create a Titan body he can control like an exo-skeleton. Eren uses his ability in the fight with the Titans to lead his friends and all of mankind to victory.
