Product information "Gil Hibben Old West Bowie Damascus Edition"
This knife is an actual copy of a typical Bowie knife of the 1830s. The story of the Bowie began on a sandbar of the Mississippi River above Natchez, Mississippi on September 19, 1827. A brawl that eventually involved Col. James “Jim” Bowie, who, having been shot and stabbed, successfully defended himself killing Major Norris Wright and wounding Alfred Blanchard with what onlookers described as a “large butcher knife.” This and other tales of Bowie’s abilities with a knife led to the widespread popularity of what became known as the “Bowie” knife. Bowie joined the Texas militia at the beginning of the Texas Revolution. Legend has it that Bowie died in his bed, knife at his side, after emptying his pistols into numerous Mexican soldiers.

This elegant recreation offers a hardwood handle accented by the gold-plated blade catcher and guard which are reminiscent of the styling of original Bowies. The classic approx. 35.5 cm Damascus steel blade is folded to an astounding 3456 layers. Within the scope of supply is a genuine leather sheath with brass plated star and Hibben Knives logo.

Details:
Blade Length: approx. 35.5 cm
Blade Material: Damascus steel
Handle Material: Hardwood

This knife has just won the IWA Knife Award in Nuremberg on IWA show 2010 :

The decision in the Collector Knives category was in favour of the Gil Hibben Old West Bowie Damascus Edition entered by Swords & more GmbH. It’s the famous names that make this knife so fascinating. Gil Hibben is also known to laymen as the creator of the “Rambo” film knife, and experts claim that the model for this knife originated from Wild West legend Jim Bowie himself. The jury added with a wink: “A lot of knife for the money”!
