Ant is the most compact of the folding knives from Extrema Ratio. Despite its small size, this model features an extremely robust, durable, and reliable structure.
The handle consists of two different elements: the handle scale made of anodized anticorodal aluminum and the frame made of tempered steel, which also serves as the blade lock (Frame Lock System). This mechanism involves bending a part of the frame inwards, securely fixing the blade in the open position, enhancing the operator's safety during knife use.
There is a hole for a lanyard on the tang, and on the right side of the handle, there is a steel clip allowing for concealed carry in the pocket.
Ant is available in 4 versions with two different types of steel, both supplied by Böhler, an Austrian company with which Extrema Ratio has collaborated for over 20 years, using its trusted materials for the production of their blades.
The Ant Black and Ant Black Stone Washed versions use Böhler N690, hardened to 58 HRC for the best balance between edge retention and robustness—a steel type used by Extrema Ratio for the majority of its knives.
For the Rescue Red Stone Washed and Black Stone Washed M390 versions, Extrema Ratio utilizes Böhler M390 steel, heat-treated to 61 HRC. Thanks to a powder metallurgy production process, this steel ensures long-term cutting effectiveness, wear resistance, and resistance to oxidation.
The blade has a sheepfoot shape and is equipped with a small hole on the upper part for easy opening. Its particular structure, with a straight edge, allows the user to comfortably rest their fingers on the back of the knife and use it with ease.
Ant Rescue, unlike the other 3 versions, has a red handle scale, making it easier for the operator to locate the knife in case of a fall. This version features specific serrations for cutting ropes and even high-tenacity aramid materials. Additionally, this model has a tapered tang that functions as an emergency screwdriver. Ant Rescue was developed according to the needs expressed by the "Scuola Truppe Alpine dell'Esercito Italiano" (Alpine Troops School of the Italian Army).
