Product information "PSK XL Katana"
The PSK XL Katana returns with all the features that made it a great katana but with some great improvements.

Keeping with our promise for upgrades and advancement, the crisp and clean new look of the furniture (tsuba, fuchi, kashira, menuki) comes from the new tooling of this classic design that will remind you of the early originals. Still featuring the blade geometry of the differentially hardened and forged 1566 forge steel blade of the original.

The CAS Hanwei Performance Series is a standard in the Japanese sword market. Being the go-to cutting katana for practitioners, our newly updated Performance Series katana continue to out rank the competition within their niche in the sword world with their consistency and reliability of quality and cutting execution. Highly imitated but never truly replicated, you can purchase with confidence in the CAS Hanwei brand swords with our over four decades of knowledge and expertise in manufacturing.

The PSK XL Katana remains the standard for being designed for maximum cutting power in heavy targets. Keeping the furniture of the Practical Katana and the low maintenance synthetic tsuka components, the XL blade geometry allows for not only cutting straw bamboo mats but properly prepared thick bamboo targets. The 1566 steel and differentially hardened in the traditional manner, producing an edge hardness of HRC60 and spine hardness of HRC40. Cut with confidence with the PSK XL Katana.

In 2025, the PSK Raimie XL Katana was added to the Performance Series XL selection for those who wanted a heavy cutter with little more beauty.

Made formerly at the legendary Hanwei forge that closed in 2024, the famed artisans of Dalian at the Dragon King forge take the mantle of this legendary brand. Former protégé of Paul Chen and original engineer of the manufacturing of the Hanwei brand, Frenchie Jin knows these swords better than anyone else as he was a part or their original conception at the original Hanwei Metal Factory. The CAS Hanwei brand couldn’t be in better manufacturing hands for the future.

I like this katana. It's simple and built like a tank! The saya is also very well done with a good looking black finish.

Tatami Omote - basic quality
This mat is made from rice straw and can be used for the traditional japanese cutting test tameshigiri. The mat has a dimension of 180*90 cm. This mat comes single packed in a foil together with a pad of silicon so that the mat wont catch any water during transport or storage. The end of the mat is tied together by some wire which you have to cut of before starting to cut with your blade. This tatami omote is the basic quality. After our experiences in cutting tatami omote during the last years we have decided to offer different qualities of tatami omote. By this we can make sure that each and every cutting customer will be satisfied. The beginner can buy and cut this mat without any problems. The advantages are obvious: - low price - pre rolled, safes time in preparation - soaks water very quickly - easy to cut We recommend this tatami omote to all customers doing tameshigiri for the first time who also want to save time and money but want to cut the traditional way. When you compare the 2 kinds of tatami omote, basic and high quality, then you will quickly realize that the basic quality tatami omote has only half the withstood the high quality has. Or in other words to say, the high quality is twice the hard to cut as the basic quality. The reason for this lies directly in the structure of the omote. The high quality has a much higher density than the basic quality. 1 Mat = 8 EURO If you want to order larger quantities than 200 mats please ask for our offer. Please note: The stand shown is NOT included.
