Product information "Practical Bastard Sword"

By customer request CAS` have produced a re-enactment version of our the Original Bastard sword. The blade is forged in 5160 high-carbon steel, to minimize burring, and the transverse thickness of the guard has been increased, both to provide adequate strength for re-enactment use and to present a safer profile at the ends of the guard. Another innovation is the provision of an all-leather scabbard, in contrast with the rigid scabbards normally provided with the Practical swords - this is designed both to provide an extra margin of safety when combatants fall on the scabbard in battle and also to minimize the need for replacement scabbards.

The sword is supplied with the grip and scabbard in a neutral-coloured leather to allow customization to the owners taste.

Eleganz durch Schlichtheit und Funktionalität - würde ich zusammendfassend sagen. Vorab: Ich bin 1,86m groß und 93kg schwer. Mit den 1,29m Gesamtlänge der Waffe komme ich wunderbar zurecht und die (tatsächlichen) 1,740 kg der Waffe strengen mich erst nach einer Weile wirklich an. Eine Fechtfeder ist das aber nicht - sie fordert eher einen kräftigen Arm. Zu den Feinheiten: gut verarbeitet und gut ausgewogen, mit dem langen Gehilz sehr gut zu führen - der Schwerpunkt liegt gut, die Klinge kippt willig über das Handgelenk. Der Scheibenknauf hat eine Kante die beim Training ohne Handschuhe nach einer Weile unangenehm drückt. Der Rest des Griffes liegt gut in der Hand. Die gebogene Parierstange neigt bei manchen Paraden zum Verhaken wenn man eine gerade gewohnt ist (reine Übungssache). Die Klinge ist flexibel ohne dabei zu stark zu schwingen. Die Macken - und Gratbildung ist recht gering, auch wenn eine Klinge mal etwas härter ankommt. Hat bereits mehrere Trainingsstunden ohne Beanstandung gemeistert. Alles in Allem ein schlichtes aber schönes und geradliniges Sport - und Trainingsgerät. Sein einziger Schmuck ist die wirklich schöne Lederscheide aus dickem Sattelleder. Es ist gut ausgewogen und in den Proportionen einfach stimmig, wirkt schon fast ein bischen edel - ich mochte es vom ersten Anfassen an. Zum Preis: in dieser Preisklasse absolut konkurrenzfähig - aber ich schaue beim Kauf eines Schwertes nicht auf einige Euro hin oder her ...
