Product information "Great Fighting Bascinet - Late 14th Century, Size XL"

Representing one of the high points of bascinet development before the advent of the plate neck defense, this French design is an example of the more robust bascinets used in the late 14th century. It features a moveable visor that can be opened both upward and also towards each side thanks to the removable bolts in the hinges. Brass vervelles attached to the rim serve as attachment points for an aventail. Made out of two halves of 2mm (14 gauge) steel, then welded and polished with a padding and covered with cotton (100%) and a leather chin strap.

An aventail is a mail curtain that was attached to the lower edge of a helmet. This protected the neck and the uppper shoulder area depending on the length of the mail.
