Product information "The Askeaton Early Viking Sword"

The Askeaton Early Viking Sword was developed by Matt Easton in collaboration with Windlass Steelcrafts and is heavily inspired by an original sword housed in the National Museum of Ireland. The original weapon was discovered near Askeaton in County Limerick and represents a classic example of an early Viking sword.

Classified as a Petersen Type A / Behmer Type VIII sword, this piece is characterized by its exceptionally agile handling and responsive balance. With the point of balance positioned extremely close to the guard, the sword feels remarkably fast in hand, designed for quick movements and agile combat around enemy shields.

The blade is forged from 1075 high carbon steel and offers an excellent balance of speed and durability. The grip uses a historically authentic “wet-wrap” leather technique, where fine cord is wrapped tightly around wet leather. Once dried, the leather retains an attractive textured pattern that improves grip and visual authenticity.

A rare and distinctive feature of this sword is the decorative spacers placed between the grip, pommel, and guard. The construction closely follows historical Viking sword methods, with the blade peened to the lower section of the two-part pommel and the upper section riveted in place.

The sword includes a high-quality period-style scabbard with a wood core, leather covering, and matching belt.

Sehr leichtes Wikingerschwert
