The Normans (also called Northmen or Norsemen) were Scandinavian Vikings who raided the European coastal settlements during the 8th century. Despite their eventual conversion to Christianity and their adoption of Frankish cavalry warfare, the Normans retained many of the traits of their Germanic ancestors. Norman culture was known for ferocity and strength, which is probably why it spread its influence almost unchecked across Europe for centuries. Examples of Norman influence show up in art, language, religion, and especially in the relics of warfare that remain from this turbulent time. This Norman Dagger is companion to our Norman sword. It has an identical straight guard and wheel pommel typical of weapons of that type. Like the sword, the dagger’s blade is forged from 5160 high Carbon Steel and tempered to a Rockwell of 53, making it just as battle-ready. The Sword Maintenance Kit comes in a lightweight wooden storage box and includes all the essential tools needed for regular blade maintenance. The Uchiko powder ball contains fine polishing powder and is gently tapped along the blade to loosen old oil and surface impurities. The residue is then removed with the included soft microfiber cloth. Finally, apply a thin layer of clove oil to protect the blade against rust and corrosion. Regular maintenance helps prevent fingerprints, moisture damage, and other stains that can permanently affect the blade's finish. This maintenance kit is an essential accessory for collectors, Iaido practitioners, and sword enthusiasts alike. Clove Oil (Tsubaki or Clove Oil) The oil protects the blade from rust by forming a thin protective barrier against humidity and moisture in the air. As the protective film gradually evaporates over time, it is recommended to reapply the oil at least once a month. Uchiko Powder Ball The Uchiko powder ball contains fine polishing powder. By gently tapping both sides of the blade, it loosens old oil, fingerprints, and fine contaminants. When used together with the microfiber cloth, it helps restore a clean and polished blade surface. Microfiber Cloth The soft microfiber cloth is used to remove the Uchiko powder, oil residue, fingerprints, and other contaminants from the blade. It is also ideal for applying a thin, even coat of maintenance oil across the entire blade. Brass Mekugi Remover (Mekuginuki) The brass Mekuginuki is used to remove the bamboo retaining pins (Mekugi) from the sword handle, allowing the sword to be safely disassembled for maintenance. The brass hammer head can be unscrewed from the handle for use. Sword Maintenance InstructionsClean and maintain your sword after every use, whether it has been used for Iaido practice, Tameshigiri, or is simply displayed as part of your collection. 1. Remove Old Oil Use the microfiber cloth to wipe the blade thoroughly from the tip toward the handle, removing old oil and light surface contamination. 2. Apply Uchiko Powder Gently tap both sides of the blade with the Uchiko powder ball. The fine polishing powder helps lift old oil and dirt from the blade's surface. 3. Wipe the Blade Clean Carefully wipe away all Uchiko powder using the microfiber cloth. Repeat the process if necessary until the blade is completely clean. 4. Apply Fresh Oil Apply a small amount of clove oil to the microfiber cloth and spread it evenly over both sides of the blade, working from the tip toward the handle. Only a very thin protective film should remain on the blade. 5. Regular Maintenance Every 3–4 months, it is recommended to disassemble the sword and clean the tang (Nakago) in the same manner before applying a light coat of oil.

By the mid-1600’s dueling was at the height of its popularity. In fact, this trend for settling affairs of honor with steel reached such heights that King Louis XIII of France outlawed dueling for fear of losing too many of his important dignitaries to this dangerous pursuit! Aristocratic noblemen saw it as their manly duty to defend their honor at sword-point, and as such began not only seeking out the knowledge and training imparted by specialist sword masters, but also exploring new types of weapon to help them gain a decisive edge. One particular sword began to gain popularity - a smaller, lighter and faster version of the Rapier that was easier to carry and quicker in combat. A precursor to what would eventually become the Smallsword referred to by many simply as the “transitional rapier”. Cold Steel’s interpretation of this blade (which we have named the Cavalier Rapier) features a sharp double edged and needle tipped blade which is decidedly shorter and lighter than a classic Rapier, allowing for much more speed and agility. The Horn of Gondor was an heirloom of the Stewards of Gondor, fashioned by Vorondil from a horn of the Kine of Araw, and passed to his descendants until its destruction at the death of Boromir. Tipped with silver and inscribed with ancient characters, it was said to be audible at any place in Gondor when winded.The wall mount and horn are made of resin, there is a leather strap included to hang the horn from the wall mount. The horn has holes at both ends so should be functional (like a trumpet, not just to blow into it). The horn is 45,72 long cm from end to end and the wall plaque is 19 cm high.
