Product information "Polish Saber"
The latest addition to our line-up of high-performance swords is inspired by examples of early 17th Century Polish Sabers.

Used both on horseback and on foot, these battlefield sabers had a fearsome reputation, not least for the skill-at-arms of the Polish Noblemen who wielded them, but also for their phenomenal cutting potential.

Our interpretation of this historically significant blade was designed by custom bladesmith Dave Baker, and is made from expertly heat treated Carbon Steel. With a fully sharpened, distal tapered and strongly curved blade, the Polish Saber is capable of delivering exceptional cuts, while still remaining stiff enough for the thrust.

Shamshir
The Shamshir originated in Persia and spread throughout the former Ottoman Empire and beyond into India and even the Philippines. Its strongly curved blade was enduringly popular and absolutely ideal for delivering a devastating cutting stroke. And, contrary to popular belief, it was very effective at delivering rising, descending and hooking style thrusts! Typically, the curved Shamshir blade had a narrow cross section and a sharp point. It had a simple brass or steel crossbar hilt and an equally straightforward handle made from wood or animal horn that terminated in a distinctively bulbous pommel. This pommel was offset slightly to help the hand resist centrifugal force when making a hard cutting stroke. Our version of this historic saber replicates the original as closely as possible. The only modifications were to substitute a modern high carbon steel for the blade and to use black faux buffalo horn for the handle. Even the scabbard is a close copy of the original. It´s made of thick, black leather (so it won´t dull the blade) and reinforced by a brass throat and chape, and comes complete with dual suspension rings. Talwar
For over a century, most of the Western world has remained convinced that a point-oriented, thrusting sword is superior to an edge-oriented cutting sword. There are, however, a series of books by D.A. Kinsley that cast a sceptical light on this running debate. Kinsley recounts numerous incidents (collected form battlefields throughout the British Empire) where cutting swords proved equal, if not superior, to thrusting swords in deciding the outcome of a skirmish. Cold Steel’s president, Lynn C. Thompson was encouraged by Mr. Kinsley's ideas and after considering all the evidence decided to produce one of the best cutting swords ever devised: The Indian Talwar. Taking a cue from the most experienced Indian Swordsmen of the past, and the Pindari chief of old, Amir Khan, Lynn has combined a strongly curved British Light Cavalry blade with its distinctive hatchet point (wider near the tip than the forté) with a traditionally styled Indian hilt. The blade is hand forged from tough 1055 Carbon steel and features a broad fuller and a razor edge. The hilt is equally well made. Fashioned from brass with an intricately decorated surface, it offers short, thick quillons, a single knuckle bow and the traditional dish shaped pommel to lock in your hand. Supplied with an excellent scabbard made of wood covered in black leather and capped at either end with a thick brass throat and chape, the Indian Talwar is a ferociously effective cutting sword that will serve you well on or off the battlefield. 15th Century Longsword
The longsword, often called a hand-and-half, saw a great deal of service as a weapon of war, but was also employed a great deal as a civilian weapon of self- defense. Coupled with a dagger, the longsword was an excellent defense against robbers, thieves, footpads, assassins and even some of the robber bands that might roam the countryside. A good serviceable point allowed it to be used for thrusting, and a medium weight allowed it to be used easily and carried with equal ease. This weight also allowed it to be used with one hand with a dagger in the other. But when needed, it could be gripped with both hands for a very powerful cut. Pommel and guard are steel. Grip is wood wrapped with leather and wire. A beautiful and very functional sword. A scabbard is included. Details: Total length: 45 1/2" Blade size: 36 1/2" long, 1 3/16" wide, 3/16"" thick Weight: 3 lbs. 4 oz.
