Product information "Great Sword"

The Great Sword is a long versatile two-handed blade, developed for powerful cuts and thrusts. Typically used to carve paths through lines of pole-arm soldiers and combat throughout the battlefield ranks. The double-edged straight blade featured a flattened ricasso that allowed the swordsman to choke up on the blade for more control, dexterity and maneuverability for close quarters combat. The parrying hooks at the end of the ricasso kept the user’s hand from slipping onto the blade and catching blades or pole-arm shafts.

Designed by CAS founder Barry Ross, the Kingston Arms Great Sword embodies all the attributes a sword aficionado would want in such a piece. At 56 ¼” long and weighing a 5 lbs., our version falls within the parameters found in great swords of the period. The 39 ½” blade has a 5 ½” double grooved ricasso with 1 5/8” parrying hooks and a 14 1/4" blade fuller. The 16” handle features a 12 ¾” leather wrapped grip for easy handling and carrying over the shoulder. The double ringed, stainless-steel guard and pommel are a matte finish. From tip to tip, the guard is 15” wide with tapering 12.5mm thick quillions. With a balance point of 3” from the guard and a point of harmonics 19” from the tip, our Great Sword is beautifully balanced and highly functional.

Due to the size of the Great Sword, it comes boxed disassembled to reduce the cost of shipping. Simply slide the guard over the tang followed by the fatter end of the grip, and screw on the pommel for an easy assembly.

Two Handed Gim Sword

This type of sword was usually reserved for only the strongest warriors in ancient China, as some specimens weighed over 6 pounds! The long heavy blade cut a wide swath and thus could smash through the defenses of enemy soldiers who were armed with shorter and lighter weapons. It was a natural for defending tight spaces like gates and passage ways where there was room Our version is a bit lighter than some of the originals, giving one the option of wielding it with one or both hands. The battle-tough blade is embellished with a cast brass guard and pommel which are decoratively accented with an intricate relief pattern. The guard and pommel are fitted to an attractive hardwood handle covered with tightly braided cord. A rosewood scabbard completes the package. French Napoleonic 1801 Cuirassier Sword

Despite the waning effectiveness of plate armor against the increasing proficiency of firearms, the French cavalry in Napoleon’s army still wore cuirasses - Medieval-style breast and back plates - with mixed success. They were mildly useful for deflecting long-range musket and pistol fire (we emphasize “mildly”), but when combined with an ornate, gorgon-headed helmet that featured plumes and horse-tail hair, the Cuirassier’s battle dress created quite an imposing figure as he charged into the fray. Surviving accounts from British opponents attest to the petrifying spectacle of compact groups of Cuirassiers emerging from behind the French front lines. This is his sword; the French Model 1801 Cuirassier’s sword is a heavy cavalry saber with a straight blade, as the French favored the thrust over slashing or cutting. This replica weighs a little over 3 lbs, the substantial mass needed to accomplish a lance-type thrusting attack. John Lee Aikuchi Tanto
