The ho-o is considered a heavenly bird that only appears in times of
peace, harmony, and just rule. Its appearance was traditionally
interpreted as a good omen—a sign that the world is in balance.
The hand forged blade with fuller (Bo-Hi) is made of 1095 carbon steel (which is not stainless). Made in Kobuse-Style, traditionally hardened through clay-coating. With real Hamon-line. 60 HRC at the scabbard, 40 HRC at the back. The blade collar (Habaki) is brass and the iron fittings (Tsuba, Fuchi, Menuki, Kashira) present edelweiss, decorated with gold and silver.
Grip-wrap is Katate Maki-Style (War-wrap) made of grey silk, under which real ray skin is underlaid. Two dowels (mekugi) fix the blade in the grip.
