Extension knives have a long tradition in hunting. When folded, the handle covers exactly half of the cutting edge, while the other half extends beyond the handle. This allows the knife to be used for all "red-handed" tasks such as butchering, skinning, and butchering. When unfolded, the blade length is optimal for catching a wounded animal, which fortunately only occurs in rare cases. Extension knives lock in both the open and closed positions. Legally, extension knives can be considered folding knives, meaning that unlike fixed-blade knives, there is no 12 cm blade length limit. The Böker Plus Extension Knife, which is locked but still requires both hands to open, can be carried freely according to Section 42a of the German Weapons Act – despite its considerable blade length of 18.5 cm. The Böker Plus Extension Knife is one of the rare, if not the only, modern interpretations of an extension knife. The designer and engineer Wilfried Hein is little known, but all the more creative in inventing special technical solutions. In his eventful life, he primarily advised various German authorities on weapons technology requirements and initiated numerous detailed developments. The Extension Knife features a solid and powerful D2 blade, which locks both open and closed with a large cross bolt. The cross bolt can be screwed into the handle without tools for even greater strength, both in the fully open and shortened positions. This means that the knife must be operated with two hands even to open, making it a true two-handed knife. The handle, made of two thick steel plates and milled G10, is a modern nod to the double-T handles of 14th and 15th century Baselards. For versatile use, the knife features a solid punch at the end of the handle. The knife comes with a custom-fit Kydex sheath.
