Product information "Kamakura Tachi"

The Kamakura period (1185-1333) was a crucial epoch in the history of Japan. It is characterized by the first military government (shogunate), which arosed by Minamoto no Yoritomo in 1192. The name of this era is derived from the former seat of government, which was in the city of Kamakura (about 50 km southwest of Tokyo).

Together with armor (Yoroi) and Combat Knife (Tanto) the Tachi was usually worn on the battlefield. Unlike the katana, the tachi with its sword belt was fastened at belt with the Cutting edge worn down.
The John Lee Kamakura Tachi is a deliberately simple design and thus differs from replicas from later periods, which were often richly decorated and were used only for ceremonial purposes.
The hand-forged blade is made from hardened carbon steel and sharp.
The handle is traditionally wrapped with black silk, lined with genuine ray skin.
The decorations (Tsuba, Menuki, Fuchi and Kashira) are typical for a tachi and are based on historical originals.
The detailed baldric is made up of from high-quality leather inlays and a high-quality two colored cotton sageo.

The sword comes with a printed cloth bag, collector box, stamp and certificate.
