Medieval combat with sword and shield - Fundamentals of Buckler fencing

The unarmored duel with sword and buckler was for centuries the most common martial arts of medieval Europe. Roland Warzecha and Tobias Wenzel familiarize this way of fighting to the viewer on this DVD. Based on medieval fencing manuscripts and years of martial arts practice, the authors provide the essential basics. To these belong the anatomical and physical regularities and the tactical approach and fencing theory.

Step by step, the relevant concepts were elucidated and demonstrated by using historical techniques. Appropriate protective equipment and weapon simulators for training and sparring will be presented. Finally sequences of free fencing of the authors convey an impression of an sporting employment of historical Buckler Fencing techniques.

Witham Viking Seaxe Knife
(History of the Seax Knife)A scramseax (also scramsax, scramseaxe, scramaseax, scramasax, scramaseaxe and sometimes referred to as simply scram, seax or sax) was a type of Germanic single-edged knife. Scramseax seem to have been used for warfare and as a tool. They occur in a size range from 7.37 cm to 74.93 cm. The larger ones (langseax) were probably weapons, the smaller ones (hadseax) tools, intermediate sized ones serving a dual purpose. Wearing a scramseax may have been indicative of freemanship. The scramseax was worn in a horizontal sheath at the front of the belt. Scram refers to food and seax to a blade (so, "food knife"). There is some debate about the authenticity of the longer word scramseax. The Saxons may have derived their name from seax (the implement for which they were known) in much the same way that the Franks were named for their francisca. This claim is largely supported by the appearance of scramaseaxes in early Saxon heraldry. The Generation2 version is based off a 10th century version drawing given to us by Hank Reinhardt. And if you notice it is a nice match to the Witham Viking Sword. The Blade is 5160 tempered carbon steel with a wood handle, wrapped in brwon leather. The tang is peened over top the metal end cap of the handle. A hand stiched Leather scabbard with belt hanger is included. Details: Blade length: 30.80 cm Overall length: 43.82 cm Balance Point: 4.45 cm below steel Guard Weight: 408.24 g

Medium Sjambok
In Africa, the Sjambok (Sham-Bawk) is a cattle prod, a whip, a riding crop and a means of self protection. Unlike most western style whips, the Sjambok is not plaited from thin leather strips. Instead, it is carved whole out of Hippopotamus hide. Its considerable reach, lightning speed and devastating impact have built it quite a reputation as a sure defense against deadly snakes. The Sjambok was adopted by the South African police as a riot control weapon. Because of the large numbers of Sjamboks that were needed, the issue item was made from precision molded black plastic. Give one a try and you´ll see why it has earned its awesome and well deserved reputation. Specifications: Thick: 2.54 cm (Diameter butt) Blade: 0.95 cm (Diameter tip) Overall: 104.14 cm Sheath: Extruded black plastic
