John Lee Shirasaya Katana
Shirasaya refers to a special sword mount, which was formerly used for the gentle keeping of the blade. Especially in times of peace the blades were ideal protected stored in it. The unvarnished Magnolia wood absorbs the moisture inside the sheath, leads it to the outside and thus protects against rust. Many Shirasaya were provided with a "Sayagaki", an inscription, which gave information on smith, origin and classification. On the streets of Japan, the inconspicuous gear without handle and guard, especially in the late 19th Century was used because at that time the Emperor banned the carrying of Samurai swords. The Shirasaya mount, which was similar to a wooden sword or wooden stick was a clever way to wear the sword unnoticed. Blade in Shinogi Zukuri style with fuller (Bo-Hi), hand-forged from 1045 carbon steel. The blade is sharp grounded with incorporated Hamon-line for a very authentic look. Wooden scabbard. With long tang, which is fixed with two bamboo pins (Mekugi) in the handle. The sword is thus fully demountable. Without plastic, only high-quality and authentic materials are used. Blade clamp (Habaki) and washers (Seppa) are made of brass. The traditional handle wrapping is lined with genuine ray skin. All decorations (Tsuba, Fuchi, Menuki, Kashira) are handmade from metal. A protective case made of fabric, a John Lee seal and a certificate are within the scope of supply. Details: Overall length: approx. 100.5 cm Blade length: approx. 72.5 cm Handle length: approx. 28 cm Blade Material: 1045 Carbon Steel Weight (without sheath): approx. 940 g

Higo Munekage Shirasaya Katana
We forged this shirasaya katana based on a model Higo Munekage from the year 1836. The blade is forged of T10 steel and features a very intense hamon, which has been visibly polished again after the yokote. The hardness as always is 60/40 HRC and the blade has been very sharply polished. On the blade there are two narrow hi that form a sword towards the center of the blade and are then interrupted by bonji. The hi then run further into the 8 cm large o-kissaki. The blade decoration is found on both the ura and omote sides of the katana. The hamon is very prominent and the blade is very sharp, which make this shirasaya katana the perfect sword to expand your collection. Details: Blade length: ca. 68.8 cm Handle length: ca. 26 cm Total length: ca. 96.5 cm Blade strength (thickness) at the habaki : 7 mm Blade height (from edge to spine) at the habaki : ca. 3.4 cm Weight without saya: 1,013 g Weight with saya: 1,306 g
