Leather Baldric

The usual way of carrying a sword was not to tie it to the belt or sling it onto the back with a special sheath - since the days of antiquity sword were fastened to a baldric. This broad leather strap was slung across the shoulder, so that the weapon remained close at hand. Baldrics later developed into pistol or ammunition bandoliers. Our baldric is an early variant made of black leather studded with rivets. Its simple shape makes it suitable for re-enacting different eras. The loop can be adjusted to accommodate most sword sizes.

Arming jacks were an extremely common sight on the Medieval battlefieds of the 14th and 15th centuries. A shorter form of gambeson, they could be worn both over a mail shirt, or under it. They could even be used as a stand alone armour in their own right, and quite often they were. Their look is enhanced with a pair of jack chains.
