Templar surcoat
In 1118 Hugh de Payens and eight other secular knights took vows of poverty, chastity, and obedience and pledged their lives to the Holy Land for the defence of Christian pilgrims. The king of Jerusalem, Baldwin II, gave this group a place to live. They were settled in the al-Aqsa Mosque on the Temple Mount. After which they became known as Pauperes commilitones Christi Templique Salomonis, or Poor Fellow-Soldiers of Christ and the Temple of Solomon. More commonly known as the Knights Templar. This was the beginning of what would become the most powerful military order in the world until their downfall in 1307. Our surcoat represents what a Knight of the Temple would have worn. All white with a distinctive red cross on the center of the chest, this combition made them instantly recognizable on the battlehfield. Crafted from wool with a 100% linen lining.
