Product information "The Hobbit"

The Hobbit is the currently film shooting of the three part high-fantasy film adaptation of the novel The Hobbit by J.R.R. Tolkien from the year 1937. It is the prequel to the film trilogy Lord of the Rings. Peter Jackson, who has already acted as director in the Lord of the Rings movie trilogy, directed this movie again and is also producer and co-author.

Several actors who played already in Jackson's film trilogy Lord of the Rings, will take over their roles again. Ian McKellen, Andy Serkis, Hugo Weaving, Cate Blanchett, Christopher Lee, Ian Holm, Elijah Wood and Orlando Bloom will be present. In addition, the composer Howard Shore will again be responsible for the music.

Having been early announced that the story is divided into two films, has now been announced that a total of three movies are made. The first two parts, titled The Hobbit - An Unexpected Journey and The Hobbit - There and Back Again were shot simultaneously and are currently in post production in New Zealand, the shooting began on 21 March 2011 and ended on 6 July 2012.

In the U.S. the films will start on 14 December 2012, respectively on 13 December 2013 in the cinemas. One day earlier on 13 December 2012 respectively on 12 December 2013 the films will start in German cinemas.

The third part, first announced on 30 July 2012, will start by current plans in the summer of 2014 and has still no title. Additional shooting will take place in coming summer.

Tolkien. However, it is not a direct adaptation of any work he published. Release of the first eight-episode season is scheduled to begin weekly on Prime Video beginning September 2, 2022. Amazon acquired the rights to Tolkien's works in November 2017 for $250 million. Part of the deal was a five-season deal estimated to cost over $1 billion, making it the most expensive series of all time. Filming for the first season began in Auckland, New Zealand in February 2020 and concluded in August 2021.
